Epilepsy Bathroom Project

2022 / Bathroom

The Project

Brief: Continue to develop and improve a previous student’s project that aims to prevent accidental drownings of people with epilepsy whilst in the bath.

The initial design was a wedge that fits under the legs to prevent people from slipping under the water if they have a seizure whilst in the bath. The main seat panel that rests under the thighs has three separate height settings.

With the original design it was very difficult to get in and out of the bath whilst the product was in place as the height could not be adjusted when in use.

To solve this problem, we added a cord to the adjustment beam that can be pulled to change the height of the panel whilst the product is being used. This lets you customise the panel height to your needs and also lower it all the way down so it is not in the way when you try to get out of the bath.
