Rubik Cube Timer

2021 / App

A design for a timer app used by competitive speed cubers to track and log their solve times. Completed as part of a UX module, the design focuses on user interactions with the app, how these can relate back to the original product and incorporating branding.

As shown in the video below, a swiping motion is used to navigate between the different pages to create a visual link to twisting the different layers of a Rubiks cube.

Rubik’s cubes have a very distinct design and image which has been incorporated into the interface. They also have a grid like appearance which inspired the modular layout for the main pages. I decided I should avoid lengthy animations in the design, as the app is centred around the idea of trying to record the quickest time so the interface itself needs to reflect this. Movements needed to be quick, sharp and precise.
Rubik’s cubes have a mostly set colour palette that I used to create a visual connection between product and app.
